Wisdom from a 5 year old

I just overheard Emma and Bryson in their rooms playing "Mommy and Daddy"...Emma was yelling at him, "Wait, Bryson!! That's what mommies and daddies do, they wait on each other!" He, of course, thought it was funny to take off with the stroller and leave her behind. She came running after him, took the stroller, and huffed off back to her room, her feelings crushed. He jerked away from her and me and went off a different direction dejected looking. Thankfully, the wounds were shallow and they were back to playing together within 5 minutes.
I just thought, wow, that is so true of marriage, or any relationship, really. Mommies and daddies should wait on each other and be patient and not self seeking. So often, we are so worried about our own agendas that we forget to "love others as ourselves" and to put them first. If husbands and wives (or whomever the relationship is with) would "wait on each other" like we're supposed to, we could certainly live in harmony more often! Too often, we don't wait, and the result is hurt and dejection...and, it seems it takes us adults much longer than 5 minutes to let go of the pain.
What a great reminder of what my marriage should look like my little Emma gave me this morning! I can only hope she's getting some of her great ideas by observing! : )
